The Aftermath: A24 has been struggling to stay afloat in recent years, but it’s now in a better position than ever to cash in on its brand and a key property.
The network and its parent company A24 Entertainment announced Wednesday that the company will be acquiring the rights to “Warrior,” the first original scripted series in the A24 universe and the first series produced in-house at A24.
The deal, announced by a spokesperson, was first reported by Deadline.
The series, which is set in the world of the legendary warrior class known as the Warriors, is produced by veteran Hollywood filmmaker Kevin Williamson and his brother Matt, who wrote and directed “The Avengers” series, “Warriors” and “Black Panther.”
A24 will also produce the first two seasons of “Warwick,” “Tiger and the Bandit,” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” according to the company.
The deal will see A24 acquire rights to the show from A24 Studios, which will retain its original creative ownership.
The purchase marks the first time a studio has acquired a property that previously produced such a large amount of scripted content.
A24’s parent company also has a huge stake in “Warcraft” and has been looking to build on its popularity with its new line of films, which began production last year.
A24 has also been busy producing original scripted content over the past year.
In August, it announced that it had begun production on a pilot titled “Rampage,” starring Tom Hardy.
The pilot will also be produced by The Weinstein Company.
Last month, it released “The Girl in the Striped Pajamas,” a drama series set in Los Angeles in the early 20th century starring Kate Beckinsale.
The acquisition comes just a few weeks after a major financial setback for A24, which had hoped to get into scripted TV for the first to second seasons.
The network has struggled to get its pilots produced for the past few years, and the series it has produced thus far has had mixed reviews.
The series had a 2.6 rating among adults 18-49 and a 2% rating among those 25-54.
It also had a rating of 4.5 million viewers for its first episode.
A 24 representative told Deadline that the studio’s first original series will be produced and directed by Williamson and Matt and will be “in the pilot stage at the moment.”
“It will be the first scripted series to be produced at A 24 Studios, with Matt and Kevin on board to direct the pilot and executive produce it,” the representative added.
“It will not be a scripted series, it will be a story about a group of people who go on a quest to save the world.
It will also feature a unique visual style, unique music, and a unique set design.
It is a unique project.”
